I make more than my parents or siblings and so I don't mind paying for expensive things or trips.

You sound very petty. Be happy that your MIL is engaged and wants to help. We always pay for my MIL's train ticket from Newport News to DC. We are happy to have the extra help, time with family, and sometimes the free date night sitting. Get over yourself

I think your mil is selfish for taking money from your family. I love the posters who jump on posts and imply any amount of money is small beans. Ohhhh, op is being so meaaaan over such a silly little thing.
Just today dh and I were discussing a small investment I made 2 decades ago and how much it has grown. If I were grandmom, I would want you to take that money and save it for the grandchildren. I think there are a lot of entitled in laws and moochers on this website. Those are the people who get upset about a posters "lack of generosity".

If it makes you feel better, rationalize that you are are paying babysitting money. $300 would buy you about 20 hours with a sitter so plan to spend about that much time letting her watch the baby and you'll break even!
