We enjoyed it partly because it was different from DC zoo, which we visit all the time. We got a discount on admission with our smithsonian membership (i think). Kids were ages 1 and 3 when we went. We spent about half a day. Very easy to get around. Loved the cat exhibits.

The Philly Zoo has some animals that DC no longer has, including hippos and giraffes. But it also has a TON of ways to spend more money, including camel rides, balloon rides, train rides, etc. that do not come with the base family membership. Also, depending on whether you get parking in the closer garage or the further lots, you're in for a shuttle ride or a not-short walk to and from parking.

There are so many other things to do in Philly such as the Please Touch museum that the zoo would be at the bottom of my list.

Become members. It's probably not much more than the one-time trip, and then you ride the carousel, swan boats, little train, horse, camel for free. Just make sure you go up again for another or a few more visits.

I personally love the National Zoo so maybe I am biased but I also wouldn't pay $100 to go to the zoo so maybe I am cheap too.
