i think that is here to stay. who is going to want to close kitchens back up away from the living room? however totally open as in no walls at all on the main floor yes, i agree, will go the way of mid century moderns,

But if you just get nice traditional (non-vomitatious) stuff it will last a lot longer than 15 years.

Unless it's your own kids spending money frivolously then coming to you for more money, you need to butt out! The way someone decorates has nothing to do with you, and to think you can and should change their mind is bizarre.

Even the stuff I love I don't want to look at for that long! Change is good. Embrace it.

Maybe I am boring but I prefer not to have all that crap to dust and just want plain walls, lots of molding, crown molding and cream color walls and shutters.

We will all be dead in 15 years' time.

People who decorate in styles this bold/dramatic are people who enjoy redecorating. Seriously. They get restless in a few years and want to reinvent the place. Personally, I hate redecorating, so I pick really classic things. It means my overall look is less of a dramatic statement, and more just pleasantly mellow. But mine won't look outdated as soon. To each her own!

15 years is a long time from now...

why don't you wear clothes that will be in style a decade from now, OP? how could you POSSIBLY choose to wear what's fashionable now?

Try living in the present. It's really quite liberating. You sound like one of these people who frets over whether a renovation will hurt their resale value in 20 years. What sane person thinks like this?

it seems like we are in an age of neo-70s style gaudy interior decorating: bold patterned wallpaper, furniture, rugs, clashy lights, etc. all of this stuff looks good now but will clearly look as awful as shag carpeting and reflective mirror blinds in 15 years. this seems like a huge waste of money. why don't people invest in more traditional styling?
