I think your guest option of a queen is fine. Furnish it nicer then!

When I had a condo I would give parents the master bedroom so they wouldn't have to sleep on the pull out couch (they have bad backs). Now that I have an actual guest room, hell no.

If you have another adequate space then I see no reason. A queen bed is perfectly fine (my 6'4" DH and I have full and we make it work!)

It would never even cross my mind. If we don't have the space for guests, we don't have guests.

As a child I was always evicted from my room when my parents had visiting relatives. They certainly never gave up their room.

We always give our room to the in-laws and my parents when they come. It's the only room with an attached bath. This is an easy sacrifice to make for two weeks a year for us.

I would give it to my ILs/parents. I want them to be comfortable and happy. They are elderly and they sleep a lot longer than we do, so a comfortable bed and attached bath is great. We also have a huge TV in the bedroom. They love to watch TV in bed. Seriously, I would rather they remain contained in one place.

I have given your bedroom to couple friends. Don't like the in-laws would never offer our bed to them.

Your right and your husband is a POS for putting them before you. Not a reason in the world why they can't sleep in that other bed.

I would also not like this, OP. I consider my bed to be an intimate space, and I would not want to invite my inlaws into that space.

Your basement guest situation sounds perfectly nice. If the basement is finished and has a queen bed, I see no issue whatsoever. A queen is plenty big enough for two adults. And maybe they'll appreciate having a place where they can get away from everyone. Especially if you have kids on the same floor as the master bedroom.

A queen bed in a finished basement is a perfectly fine guest option. Keep your space, OP. No need to offer it up.

Thank you for the responses. I am afraid my soul has not progressed enough to do this graciously. I fear I would be sulky.

Just did this for my own parents because the 2nd choice option is so, so, so far behind in comfort.

I guess it's "weird," but the alternative would have my parents sleeping on a mattress on the floor with two dogs likely licking them in the face as they fell asleep, with a cat trying to snuggle on the bed (no door to that guest area).

We specifically turned a portion of the basement into a guest suite, with a bedroom and bathroom so as to avoid this exact scenario.

I have offered in the past for my ILs, but they have never taken me up on the offer. DH knew that they wouldn't, but didn't mind me suggesting it to them. I wouldn't be resentful of my ILs because I want them to be comfortable as my guests - interestingly though while thinking about your question I realized that I would probably be resentful of my own parents if they expected me to give up my room. That's more about my issues with my parents though...

Have you done it/would you do it? My husband wants to do this when his parents get here. I'm afraid I would end up resentful. Also, the thought of my FIL in my bed disgusts me.

But otherwise they would sleep in the basement, which is finished but not as nice, and has a queen, not a king.
