The cinnamon idea is interesting - I'll try it.
Terro is the best stuff out there. It's boric acid mixed with something tasty and really works.

We also had luck with cinnamon in areas leading to the outside. We had a bit of an ant problem next to our sliding glass door, and sprinkled cinnamon inside the track. Worked in a couple days, and was safe to use around our toddler

Not Borax.
Use Boric Acid and and some sugar syrup or jam. It is amazing. They are gone in 2-3 days. I saw a long line of ants and I was careful not to wipe or disrupt the trail (because ants follow the chemical scent on the trail). Next I put the bait at several places along the trail. Very soon the ants were congregating around the baits. It was like a science experiment. There were so many of them around the bait - frozen, just eating, eating, eating. They would gorge themselves on the bait and then return to their nest. You could see the trail shrinking after some time. They would return to the nest and die of dehydration. They would feed others the bait and those ants would also get dehydrated. 2-3 days later, the entire hive was dead and gone. It is AMAZING.
