Both the Clearasil and the strides are alcohol based and awfully drying to faces.
I second the suggestion to switch to a milder face wash, and a moisturizer (which will help cut down oil production)/sunscreen.
If they want a mid-day tool to wipe their faces, maybe a milder toner and some cotton balls?

My knowledgeable derm is a big fan of Neutrogena - go to Target and check it out.
Give this a couple weeks, it will not clear up the acne overnight, but if not seeing results in a couple weeks then I might make an appoint for a derm.

A little young for what? Do you think the acne doesn't exist because the child is only 10? My 10 year old developed acne, we went to a derm and got a prescription (clindamycin) and rec to use benzoyl peroxide cleaner. It's made a huge difference.

Unfortunately for my kids, they have 2 parents who had awful acne as teens, so we knew to get them in to the derm at the first sign of issues. Over the counter stuff might work for others, but not my kids.

It seems to me that's what she's been doing, PP.

Proactive works well in our family. I'm in my 40's and still break out easily from sweat and sunscreen. I have to use an oil free sunscreen on face and neck.

Also, could there be a connection to his sunscreen? I break out if I use the wrong thing on my face, so you might consider another sunscreen.

I agree. Stop with the Stridex, wash twice a day with Dove soap and use an oil free sunscreen/moisturizer like Aveeno. You can probably get in to the dermatologist without too much wait this time of year.

I think your may be going too extreme with the face washing/strides pads. I find that made my acne as a kid much much worse.

DD and DS are 10 and steam their pores open with a washcloth and wash with Cetaphil once per day and then use a Ponds pad a few times a week. About once a month they do a mud mask for blackheads around their noses. A few spots on the forehead but so far so good. Maybe a visit to the dermatologist with some simple steps and milder product would help.

despite washing face twice a day and using strides pads. Would you take him to the dermatologist?
