Sorry - that really sucks. I know in my old building, you would be liable for repairing/repainting your unit even when the damage was caused by a neighbor's actions. I had a huge flood because my neighbor's water heater died and sprung a leak.

Yes, of course you have insurance, but:
1) you have to deal with repair (missing working, losing free time, losing use of your home, having to live with the paint smell) because of some else's actions
2) you still pay a deductible
3) your insurance rates go up
4) It may happen a lot (at least in my case - I had water damage four times in a year)
