For that you could get a nice house in the Palisades or Kent with a yard. Commute would be super quick. You might even be able to walk to Georgetown on the nicer days.

Lot size is not that important to me. DH doesn't like the Arlington homes that are on top of one another though, especially the ones that have been expanded and look even more cramped.

Look more in the middle of Arlington, Cherrydale, Lyon Park, etc. and you have easy access to Key Bridge. We're in Lyon Park and DH used to have an easy bike commute to Georgetown over Key Bridge. But, lots will be on the smaller size.

We like newer homes in preferably a cul de sac with decent yard (1/4 or 1/2 acre).

Could you recommend areas that we should start our search?

I like the idea of N Arlington and DH likes the look of Mclean. I told DH that N Arlington "looks" like Mclean.

Do you really think we're going to tell you about the secret bridge over the potomac??

Consider Langley Oaks in McLean, OP. But be aware that there are tons of Asians in McLean. Curious why you stated you don't necessarily want to be amongst them? (I agree too much of anything is generally, quite bad.)

DH says he can take Chain Bridge? I am not familiar with the area at all. I only know 395 to Key or Memorial Bridge. We have only one route we can take now.

10 minutes is worth a lot for us. Right now our commutes are 25 minutes to 1 hour depending on traffic. On very bad afternoons, commute can even take over an hour.

Those 10 min will be the difference of a parent going to a school event during the middle of the day.

LOLZ.

Which type of people do you prefer, OP? That is what it comes down to, frankly.

+1

Also, it seems to me that McLean tends to have larger yards than Arlington.

And larger, more swollen heads?

We live in Alexandria now and like our neighborhood very much. The sole purpose of our move would be to shorten commute times. We are Asian-American. We do not necessarily prefer to live in a neighborhood with a large Asian population. I want our kids to have a good education but not attend a high school that is too competitive. Hope that makes sense.

It will be very difficult to find the lot size you're looking for in Arlington. If that's important to you, you should look at McLean. Both will be fine commute-wise, Arlington will just be about 10 minutes shorter.
