In my experience it was the snacks (provided by the daycare and not Good Food) that were the worst offenders for being starchy junk.

+1 Our daycare (Bright Horizons) uses Good Food Co., and the vegetarian menu looks pretty good to me. It's not perfect, but they do have a good variety of food, which in the long run is a bigger concern for me.

+1. Really, this is the best way to ensure that your child isn't eating a ton of pasta or fake meat, unless you can find a home provider who is making veggie meals from scratch.

Most places we saw would hardly have anything for toddler to eat. Just white bread and fruit. Main course would not work out. A couple of places had very poor options like repeated white flour based items like lasagna, Mac and cheese, veg hot dog, rinse and repeat.

what's wrong with white flour?

LOL! I totally missed that. I was trying to figure out why a 2 year old's vegetarian menu needed to be separate.

Beantree - they have an extensive veggie menu and will also supplement if you want to bring in additional food. My DS, who is not vegetarian, usually gets the veggie meal bc that is what he prefers.

I don't have specific experience myself, but the Good Food Company, which works with many preschools/daycares, offers a vegetarian menu. Glancing at the menu, it does seem pretty starch-heavy (lots of pasta variations) but options also include bean burritos, vegetarian chili, lots of fruit, falafel, and vegetable soups.

If you're open to in-home day cares, you might look at one that is run by an Indian provider, or someone else who would be very culturally familiar with preparing vegetarian foods. (Also, Indian food is yum. )
