The gist of my question: Anyone know how to make a big rectangular room a useful home office, while looking somewhat decorated and mess-contained?
I am just so frustrated because I have a lovely room with no function, and a need for a home office but no room for it.
We live in an older stone rancher. The front room is a huge, rectangular living room, with a big, curved window on one of the long sides and a fireplace on the other. It's a big room, but these two features make it tough to have a huge table or desk surface with file cabinets, etc. in the center. Off to the side, it makes even less sense. (Not much room in the corners because soon you're encroaching on the curved window or the fireplace). The short sides of the rectangle both have entry ways, one to the DR, one to the foyer.
Also, we have a curved Henredon sofa next to the curved window; the original owners had it custom made to fit the window and I'm attached to it plus I think the window is hard to work with anyway.
Anyone have a home office in a similarly arranged space?
