Who are these family members who haven't agreed to it? Kids? At most it should only be your and your DH's decision.
I would always renovate the bathroom over new furniture.

I would like to buy pre-owned furnitures to minimize cost so I can upgrade bathroom. My family members have not agreed to this. Am I being cheap? If I wait I will be able to buy new furnitures later. To me it is not about money, I would like to be able to change furnitures without feeling guilty about it.
I feel about furniture the same way I do new cars. The depreciation once you take them out of the store kills you.
If you can find affordable new furniture or clean attractive used furniture I say go for it. Craigslist is full of "paid $3000 at Haverty's" and they have to give it away......
