What about Mimi instead?

What if she wants to be called Mommy? That's okay?

Mom-mom is a common grandmother name. I called my grandmother Mom-mom and I had zero confusion and always understood the difference between my Mom and my Mom-mom. Now it is the name my mother is choosing to use as her grandmother name.

Absolutely veto. Nobody gets called mom but you.

Offer some other suggestions. Grammy, Gigi, grandma first name, Nonna... Tell her any recognizable grandma name, but nothing that includes "mom."

Does DH back you up? If so, he can tell her. "Mom, please, don't be ridiculous. Pick something that doesn't have 'mom' in it."

Just tell her that, similarly to how she thinks two "grandmas" would be confusing, "mom-mom" would be confusing, too.

Let her know any name that's not similar to "mom" or "mommy" works for you. You can recommend some (Grammy, Deedee, Nana, Nan, Granny, Gran, etc) if you think she'd be receptive, or you can just leave it at that.

Just refer to her as grandma in front of the kid. By the time they're old enough to talk, they will call her grandma and there will be no turning back.

I think you definitely have the right to veto!! You are mom. There are so many options for her to pick from why does she have to steal your name. I would definitely fight this. And if she does pick another name, however crazy it is, as long as it doesn't have "mom" in it I would be really positive.

If you want to veto it, own up to why -- you don't want another "Mom." It's not confusing.

Wow, what is with some of these grandparents?? There are plenty of variations- gran, nana, granny (surname)... She already has someone to call her mom. Jesus. Her time is over. You're the mom.

I've definitely heard this as grandmother name, and no, I don't think it's confusing. By that logic, having two people both called "grandma" would be confusing.

Don't worry--your place as "mom/mommy/mama" is secure.

PLEASE let MIL decide what she wants to be called. Unless it's an obscenity, I really think the grandparents should get to determine their "name."

Don't invent problems. Pet peeves, and the like, they are for people who like having a "thing" to be annoyed about. What a waste.

Yes, she can have 2 grandmas, that is silly. Dare I say most people use "grandma" for more than 1. But she can also just make up any old name and if your kid will call her that, then that's what works for them.

This is not something to "veto". Otherwise you are going to have a much longer list soon!

I don't think its wrong that you don't like it. Give her other options. Meme, nene, nana, gran, grandma Sue, etc.

Fwiw, i also don't think it would be confusing to a child for mom and mom-mom. Just like Bob and Bobby.

That is a ridiculous nickname and I would veto it. Gently. But veto.

Yes. She can be called what she wants.

My MIL is under the impression that a child can't have two "Grandmas." She has suggested that she would like to be called "Mom-mom." I've never heard of this as a grandmother name - I had two grandmas myself. To me, it would be really confusing to a little kid. Mama/mommy and Mom-mom are so similar.

Am I wrong to want to be the only one with Mom in the beginning of the title for my kids?
