Same here!! Scared to death to buy because of so many people I know who were candid with me about the way owning a house has negatively affected their finances. One couple straight up said they would not do it again if they could go back in time. I can't sleep at night without a good buffer of extra $$ each night so not living paycheck to paycheck is one of my top priorities in life.

We have longer-term savings like IRA, 529s, and an investment account that we don't usually touch, but our regular paychecks come in and out the same day to pay bills. In other words, we haven't added to our savings in years but we're not depleting them either.

We live under our means with a small house, use coupons and buy a lot of clearance.

I'm not sure I understand this. If you have savings, particularly savings that are growing, you aren't living paycheck to paycheck. You're simply living within your means.

I do! I do have a small amount in savings that I refuse to touch. Other than that, it's check to check. I have 3 children, which includes DH.

I do! I also no longer have any savings or 401(k). I was never bequeathed a trust fund, nor have I ever received an inheritance. I'm beginning to think that I'm the only one on this island. Is anyone else in this situation or a similar one?
