I've reupholstered furniture myself. It's time consuming, but I actually really enjoyed it.

Slipcover would be cheaper and if it is washable more practical too.

I concur - a small cushion (for a chair) alone already cost us ~$175 at G-Street Fabrics.

I would say $800-1k depending on the fabric. You reupholster to get the shape/comfort/fabric customized or all three, but not to save money.

+1. Piping is expensive too. $800 would be my guess.

Email the picture to Upholstery Restorers in Kensington and he will give you a quote. He is doing he second of two chairs he's done for me right now and they have been about $400 each using remnants in the shop for $20 per yard. Obviously if you pick a custom fabric that they need to order it will be more expensive, and this chair looks like it will use more than The 4 yards of fabric mine have used.

I have this chair:

The shape works well in my space, but the fabric, particularly the piping, is holding up terribly. How much do you think it would cost to have it reupholstered (just labor, not fabric)? I've always heard that it's cheaper to just buy new furniture, but that seems so wasteful.
