She said she thinks it's a bad bug or spider bite, but is treating me for Mrsa "just in case."

Woke up with what looked like a pin prick size scab on my shin with a pale pink irregularly shaped ring around it on Sunday. By that evening, it went from pale pink to dark red and looked like a burn. Burns and itches. Benadryl and anti itch creams didn't work (might have made it worse). Slightly swollen. No pimples or puss. By this evening it looked worse. Larger. Pale pink ring around the irregularly shaped dark red.

Doesn't look like a tick bite. Doesn't look like a spider bite. Doesn't look like Mrsa.

No fever. No chills.

Anyone had a really bad bite that turned deep dark red and looked like a burn?

No bruising, no purple or black (like a spider bite).

I know she was trying to help, but she was young and it was a little frustrating. She didn't even mention Mrsa until I asked if it could start out looking like this (that's when she left the room and made a call). And now I'm on f'in bactrim. Dammit.

Go to a dermatologist OP! Urgent care is not a specialist. They are for things below emergency medicine.

+1 - sounds like your condition may be a huge burden on others around you. That sucks.

But OP, I'd much rather see a doctor that is open to learning new information, talking to others, to gain insight - than a doctor so quick to assume and possibly mis-diagnose.

There is no doctor that knows every single detail about every single thing.

Personally I'd be thrilled if my doctor enlisted help to determine what was going on with me. Much better than the older doctor who once told me Something didn't really look serious and then I wound up in the hospital for a week because he didn't bother trying to really figure it out.

You sound like a pain in the ass.

She's a GP if you're at urgent care. She's not going to know every single rash like a specialized dermatologist would. If it's not poison ivy, allergic reaction, heat rash, or another common rash than be glad she's making an effort to help you.

Here's your diagnosis: necrotizing assholitis. There's no cure, but trust me, it's harder on everyone else than it is on you.

Most of the time in these cases, the cause of the rash is never discovered and it heals and goes away on its own. The only time there is real concern is if it is combined with a fever or appears infected.

I'd rather have a doctor make a real effort to diagnose and help me than just make something up and send me home with a tube of ointment. She may be young but at least she gives a darn.

You probably have something rare.

If you are diagnosed with urticaria then I would be worried b/c even I an diagnose that but it is likely just something that she has never seen before.

Did you post about your rash already. You've had it since last Tuesday and it has been migrating? In not Just wondering what happened to that OP.

Rashes are really challenging to diagnose.

My doctor pulled out a book of images in front of me. She is an excellent doctor.

She's young, and she sent the nurse in first to take a picture of my rash...then I think she spent 20 minutes on google images. And now she's in the hall on the phone with someone...perhaps a grown up doctor???

I should have waited to go to my real doctor tomorrow. Dammit.
