Op again. I have tried all of those methods, and yes, for consecutive days. It has been going on for about 6 months now on and off, escalating in the last month. Nothing seems to work.

+1 Be nonchalant about it and ignore unless he is speaking to you-- then tell him you can't understand him and would he please repeat.

You just got an entire page responses of how to shut down this bratty obnoxious behavior. Re read all Pps advice about ignoring it, letting him know you're not responding when he talks like thst, etc. Ask why he does it, etc.

Have you tried any of that for more than 2 consecutive days? Is it only certain situations he does this?

Why? He'll get tired of it. Highly unlikely that he'll go back to school talking like this.

Otherwise it's a behavior issue which needs to nipped in the bud and not a speech impediment.

Ignore. My 7yo occasionally does this when he thinks he's being funny.

Just ignore. It will pass.

I try asking him to say it again in a big kid voice and he gets upset and says he didn't use baby talk. Or I might say "I don't understand what wemonaide is. What did you say?"

Choice to use Words wrong. He has been crystal clear since about 2.5.

He can say those sounds correctly but is choosing to say them incorrectly?
Is he trying to be funny? Imitating a character on tv or a friend?
Using baby talk to soften a demand?
If it's his choice to say thise sounds incorrecyly, no need for an slp, just look at him and say "can you say that again for me in you big kid voice?" Or say "it's difficult to underdsand you when you when you use that voice, what did you mean to say?"

/r/ is one of the last sounds kids produce correctly so I wouldn't be worried about it. Not sure about the L sounds.

It's summer. I'd ignore it and wait for school to start. Maybe he's doing it for attention. Check in with the speech/language pathologist at your school when it begins in September.

Our 6 year old started saying r and l words incorrectly in the last few months. He sometimes speaks correctly and sometimes like a baby. Thoughts on how to stop this? It is starting to be more frequent.
