Do you really want to do this, OP?

You could wait, and pick up different original mementos during your travels. That way your knick-knacks would have a very personal meaning and be truly representative of your life.

What you're describing would have been ideal. Unfortunately most of our traveling was done solo (before we got together) and when we were too broke to pick up decorative household items as momentos. We have a newborn so I don't think we'll be able to do much traveling for a while, at least internationally! :-/ Next time we go somewhere, we'll have to pick up some things.

What online and brick-and-mortar stores would you recommend to shop for decorative knick knacks? I'm looking for little items to decorate shelves and bookcases such as vases, candles, pottery, clocks, etc. I want something very inexpensive without looking super cheap (just some items to brighten up our space). We are in Bethesda and one place I can think of is World Market in FH.

I like things that are slightly funky or industrial looking and not so much cutesy, if that makes since. DH and I like international themes (we have photos framed from our international travel in the apartment. Thanks for your suggestions.
