I do know once you enclose the car port, you need to have a vapor seal between the garage and the house so exhaust fumes do not go in to the house.

No, I'm not going to abandon my entire idea. I'm going to put it a bit lower on the project list and gather more information in the future. It was just a question. If a few people told me it was super cheap, I'd probably be asking for recommendations. As it stands, I have other projects that are more important. Why did you bother posting?

We did this is a different state -- so may not fully apply here. But we had to do it to code, which essentially meant we had to take a 1929 structure and make it to 1994 code - which was the financial equivalent of building an addition -- the walls had to be dug down with rebar support, it needed a full foundation, garage door, roof repairs. Architect/structural engineer. The whole thing cost $50k - totally not worth it.

Permits may be an issue if it's connected to your house (then it's part of the structure so setbacks apply). I'd say $10-20k since the contractor will need to built it to code,and you'll need to bring in electric (or add more if it's already there).

Our house has a carport (single) that backs onto our back deck. What are ballpark costs for enclosing the carport to turn it into a garage? Just curious. We're in MOCO. Thanks.
