I use an 11 inch Mac Air myself for school because I love the way it fits into my bag, and my son has a 13 inch. Students with big, clunky Dell and Toshoba, etc. computers waste a lot of time because those machines seem to be/get slower to start up, etc. The Mac Airs remain speedy, and I have witnessed a nbdr of them survive being knocked off desks. I wish our school could provide Mac Airs to all of my students.
Mac Air is nice, but not as versatile as the Surface Pro...
My son likes his surface pro as well. Holds a charge all day.
But if you get a surface pro, get the warranty. My son has gone through 3 last school year. First he broke, the second two issues were device problems (charging dock died). Each time happily replaced by Microsoft with no questions but we had to wait for them to be shipped away and a new one sent to us. One time we did ask the Microsoft store for a loaner which they accommodated.
He is not gentle with his devices -- goes to school with him every day on Metro -- but this seems excessive.
