We agreed our daughter could have her ears pierced at 10, though she was lobbying hard to have them pierced earlier. I took her to Claire's for her 10th b-day and she had a very good experience. Now, at 11, she's taken care of her ears, kept them clean, and has had no problems.

I let my daughter decide when she was ready. She decided to get them done before she started first grade.

It really doesn't matter.

This! All three of my girls were done as infants per my cultural norms. No "right" time, it varies by cultures and opininions. No one "right time."

Thirteen. Definitely no younger than 13 - you need this bargaining chip and don't want to spend it too early. Plus I think girls younger than that look goofy in earrings.

I had my daughters' done when they were infants, which was when I had mine done but I'm not american. Since your daughter is already 7, I would say whatever you and she are comfortable with.

We are not allowing our 9 year old to do it yet. Friends of ours have a kid who did it -- after begging -- at 7. At 8 she stopped wearing earrings and the holes closed. They were too much work she claimed.

+1 My 7 yr old DD asked me, and I told her when she shows me she can take care of it by herself, which isn't now, that's for sure. I had mine at 14.

I was 10 when I got my first holes, 13 when I got my second, and 17 when I pierced my cartilage. (At 35 now, I only wear earrings in the first holes.)

My brother was 10 when he got his.

I let mine (three daughters) get their ears pierced when they asked and confirmed they were ready to do something that would hurt. One asked at age 4.5, one asked at age 10.5, and one asked right before she turned 6.

All three were done at tattoo shops rather than at Claires or Piercing Pagoda or something.

what age do you moms who allow piercing think is the right age for your DD?

mine who is 7 asked recently and I was quite shocked. She then suggested when she turns 11 - is this the norm?

I was 13 when i had mine pierced and my parents had revised this down from 16 due to pressure from me
