We have only had this for the specialty camps. The theatre camp had a performance, and the sewing camp had a fashion show. They meant a ton to the kids who had worked so hard on these skills, so we made it work.

Last year we had a yoga one. That was annoying and unnecessary, and I love yoga, but I need to keep my job.

I laughed when I saw the title of this thread- - my son kept mentioning the date for a camp "parent event". I was looking forward to going!! Luckily he interceded, "You can't come Mom. It's not for you" He was employed as a camp counselor, this was his summer job.

On the one hand it's annoying, but on the other hand, it was a great excuse for me to take off a whole bunch of summer Fridays. I really like taking Fridays off in the summer, and I have trouble taking all of my vacation without taking random days off. (i know, first-world problem.)

I enjoy the end-of-week events, and it is a good opportunity for dc to present his work to us, and for us to check in with DC's camp teachers. But, OP, I know you realize it's really okay if you don't attend. Please don't put unnecessary pressure on yourself...our DC begs to stay in aftercare on Friday, even when we attend the afternoon events. Awkward!

The performing arts/musical theater camp my DD does has a performance and we try to go since it's awesome. But she only goes one week a summer.

I agree! I hate those early afternoon shows and then the camp gives you the option of take them home after 2pm! I signed up for full day camp so kids can learn something and so I can work. I like the CDs instead so I can watch with them on the weekends when we have more time.

One camp had multiple events. We did not return.

I go to everyone (im a sahm that sends my kid to camp ) barely any parents attend and the event is pretty weak.

Yeah, there are a couple of those camps. If you can't go, don't sweat it.

OP here. This camp thing is new to me. I guess I made a rookie mistake by choosing specialty camps!

OMG, yes we have had one so far. It was a nature camp, and they were presented with their nature journals. This was a self-made journal they apparently wrote in all week. My 7 year old's journal had one picture of a cat in it. Luckily, my babysitter could attend this event because I was on a deadline at work, and dh has no vacation.

Nope. None of my kids' camps do this. But then I rarely do specialty camps because, like you, I need child care and that's why I use camp.

Ach, does every week camp need to invite parents in in the last day to display the week's work? While I appreciate the sentiment, I can't take off so many Friday afternoons! The kid is in camp because I need child care!
