For example, lots of bloggers form LLCs or register trademarks to protect brands and domains. It's easy to find those registrations and usually they are tied to a home address versus a law firm or other safe location.
So many people post pictures of kids and post identifying details including name of school or teacher or sports team. Now strangers can find your kids and call them by name.
It's so important to protect anonymity. I have a personal practice of never posting my son's face online. I might have his face in shadow or otherwise hidden. It's not his choice at this age to show his face and once he was past the baby age I stopped posting.
I have friends and family that post report cards because they are proud and then forgot to crop out names of the kid and teacher.
There are crazy people out there, that's for sure

I guess I assume through hacking, but the article didn't actually say, did it?
I was just telling DH at dinner that there should be some legislation specific to this kind of trolling cyber crime, punishable by something akin to manslaughter. He destroyed this guy's life, and charging him with a string of harrassment and stalking crimes couldn't ever add up to the kind of personal annihilation that he achieved. Sick, sick, sick.
