Any interest in fostering a pet while the military single person is deployed?

There are several organizations. Google: foster animal military deployed and a whole bunch come up.

I would think they'd be LESS accepting.

These MD/DC rescue groups are crazy. I could not get a dog from them when I had children under 8 and I am an experienced dog owner with all the qualifications, large yard, funds, etc.

Other poster was correct, check the shelters AND the community section of Craigslist. Honestly, not all rescue groups are rehabbing dogs, many are just shuttling them about, you get no history, they are not better than the animal shelter, just more expensive.

Such a stupid rule. My cat moved with us 10 times and lived overseas. When he died, at age 20, I tried to adopt a retired cat from a breeder. She wouldn't adopt to me even though she herself was prior military. I went to the local shelter and got a cat easily- and he's living a king's life. Try the local humane society.

Are you willing to drive? Friends in central Virginia said the pounds there will give any animal to anyone.

Isn't there a pet rescue group that specializes in taking military animal surrenders? Maybe they would be more accepting of you. The PG Animal Shelter is very desperate and has tons of animals--have you checked there?

DH has been in the military 16 years and never had pets before he married me, for obvious reasons. I brought a dog and two cats into the marriage 10 years ago, and they've been with us through 4 PCS moves, including one overseas. All to say - we don't abandon our pets.

We're now down to one cat and would like to add another one or two, but can't find a rescue group that will adopt to us because he is military. I've offered to show them vet records and especially the records of the overseas move to prove we don't abandon our pets, but no one has budged. "That's our policy" I'm very frustrated. Are we out of luck here?
