We have knobs everywhere. I don't hate them, but I plan on getting a lever for the garage door. I HATE holding a dozen bags and trying to open the knob unsuccessfully.

I think the brass ones stand out as cheap builder grade, not necessarily other styles.

We're in a similar situation w/ our new place and I'm still undecided what style I'm going to go with but I'm leaning towards levers. Levers can look nice and are certainly more functional I've come to realize (try to open a door with just a knob w/ your hands full or say your hands are dirty). Ultimately I'm not sure you can really go wrong as it's just a matter of personal preference.

These are mine. I absolutely love them and think of them as the earrings of the house. Silly? Sure. But I really delight in them. We have mahogany doors that I stained myself. They suit the house and have a really solid feel.

We plan to do glass or crystal knobs, similar to out cabinets, for all interior doors. I think they look clean and bright. Also look upgraded from any standard knob you may see.

We did Satin Nickel (bathrooms have chrome fixtures, but SN knobs.)

I did satin nickel, but all my bathroom fixtures are satin nickel too. With chrome fixtures, I would probably still do satin nickel. I chose knobs but don't think there is a clear winner in knobs vs levers, just personal preference.

In my last house I used white porcelain. Made things look cleaner than the metallic builders standard.

Levers for sure, love them.

I'd go with a brushed nickel given that you have chrome throughout. Oil-rubbed bronze is also quite popular and nice looking, but I think the nickel will stand the test of time slightly (only slightly!) better and will match your chrome better.

We recently purchased a traditional colonial home built in the 80s with all shiny brass interior door knobs. We are doing some bathroom renovations which include replacing interior doors. The bathrooms and kitchen all have chrome fixtures. Its time to decide what finish the door knobs will be and the choices are a bit overwhelming.

If you have replaced your door knobs in a similar age home what finish did you use? Also, did you go with levers or knobs?
