They do and they do good stuff. I used past tense bc my younger kid just finished 5th and we haven't been very active (beyond donating $) the last couple years. Can't honestly recall if all parents are already members or you need to affirmatively join. I was a founding officer of the PTO in 2005 when my older DC was in PK4.

We didn't want to be a PTA bc of the national dues and the position against charters. So we created bylaws to be a PTO instead. Early on we asked for optional dues but think they have stopped that.

Shining Stars had a PTO. Every family enrolled is automatically a member. No dues.

Inspired Teaching has the Inspired Teaching Family Association. Everyone invited, no dues.

Former charter had a PTO, not a PTA (a PTA pays dues up to National PTA). Dues were $5/year per family or teacher.

Bridges doesn't charge anything--everyone is automatically a member. It's different with charters than with publics. Public school PTAs are often 501(c)(3) orgs so that people can make tax-deductible contributions. But most charters are already 501(c)(3) orgs, so you can make contributions directly to them.

We are trying to finalize our upcoming PTA dues and we're hoping to get a better idea of what other Charter schools ask parents to pay. My understanding is that the DC PTA Chapter gets about $4.75 per parent joining so anything beyond that goes directly to the school. Thanks!
