Best of luck - Pender is awesome. And they are understanding of costs which can escalate quickly for the "exotics' (I always think it's funny that hamster/guinea pigs/rabbits get this label!) so don't feel bad asking them for costs on treatment options. They were very forthcoming.

Good luck, Op! I hope your hamster feels better soon. People don't always realize what personalities these little creatures have. I had a hamster years ago who was such a character - he would curl up on my shoulder and doze every night while I watched t.v. When he developed a tumor I took him in to have it removed. And I was glad I did it.

In Rockville you want to go to Quince Orchard Veterinary hospital and see Dr Felrice. (301) 208-1111
Last year I needed to find care for a sick class hamster and called all around. I got an appt w Dr Felrice but went with Bradley Hills because they had earlier availability. if I had to do it again I probably would have still gone to Bradley Hills to get the antibiotics as soon as possible but then followed up w Dr Felrice at 1st available date. In this case I firmly believe the Bradley Hills vet mis-calculated the dosage - so the lesson is just because they say they see exotic pets doesn't mean they know hamsters.
We had another class pet hamster spend the night at Quince Orchard and the total bill was under $125. so I think $125 exam fee is high.

Petsmart has Banfield pet hospitals, call around to see which ones have an exotic animal vet there, they aren't there every day

Aww sorry to hear that. No real advice other than call the emergency vet your were referred to and ask then their advice. They might be able to provide some guidance over the phone.

What can I do? The animal hospital I called doesn't see small animals. She said the closest one that does after-hours is an hour away. I'll call a local vet tmrw but fear it'll be too late
