I agree with other PPs who recommended waiting until DC is at least 6 or in the first grade.
For comprehensive testing in DC, I would look at psychologists with the Stixrud Group, Daisy M. Pascualvaca, Ph. D practice, or The Lab School of Washington. At those places, you'll be guarateed to work with experienced clinicians and not trainees.

Op here, thanks everyone. We will wait until 6. We cant afford to do this all the time, so it seems to make sense to wait.

The main reason people will tell you to wait until 6 is bc of the IQ test. Before 6 yrs old, wppsii is used. Starting at 6, the wisc. The wisc is generally considered a better test for iq with more reliable results.

We just did it for our 4 yr old at children's (they said testing is tailored to age and not to wait). Insurance fully covered it there, do figured it's worth doing. The testing was one day, though they said they would break it into two shorter days if the child needed. They also had us come back for some additional tests and questions after starting to analyze their data, as I am guessing we aren't the most straightforward case. We go back for discussion of findings and report soon, so will know more then about how they report results.
