Well, yes, I was shocked for a moment when I read the thread title. However, not only I noticed that it was posted on the "Pets" forum, but I also noticed the emoticon of the sad face, and it made me realize that the OP did not mean a human baby.

OP, get another baby as soon as possible to help you make you feel better. Donate all the clothes, bedding, foods, toys of your baby to a shelter where homeless or unwanted babies are kept. Or you could actually try and adopt a parent ...you know, an older dog?

I'm so sorry! We lost our beautiful Retriever at 11 years old, over 5 years ago and it's still so hard to remember

We only waited 2 months and got another Retriever mix puppy. She's a great dog too!! It's a huge adjustment getting a puppy after having an older dog, so just make sure you have the energy, crates, toys, etc. I was shocked at the needs of our new puppy, even though we're a dog friendly house.

My great Vet said to make sure not to (negatively) compare the new puppy too much against your dog. Puppies need time to become your new companion.

Also he said they fit in more than enough love to make up for their shorter lives. I found it helpful to find other people online that lost dogs, reading their thoughts. A video I like watching recently is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2zQbsEGh_Q.

Not sure why people are flipping out on the OP, this is the pets forum. Her baby who she had for 11 years passed and she's looking for comfort and advice.

OP my 19 year old cat passed two months ago. I said I never wanted another cat, I was so torn up. A week and a half later this little cat caught my eye and I adopted her, it just felt right.

You'll know when its time. Honestly I think when a pet passes you shouldn't let too much time go by before you fill your heart up again. So many pets need good homes, you know?

So sorry. This is something I've never been through, so no advice, but you have my sympathy. I think you should get another dog whenever you are ready.

There is no rule about when to get another--it is when you are ready and when you find the right one--or the right one finds you.

11 year old dog got diagnosed with cancer very very recently and died today. I was able to hold him until he took his last breath. We got him at 8 weeks and he slept in my bed with me every single night until today I'm grieving pretty hard but since he was diagnosed I haven't been able to help but look at dog ads online. I know I wouldn't want anything new for a few months, but how soon is too soon to get a new dog? And any dog grieving tips..
