No. I'm German, in German it's "evangelisch", which people often literally translate into the English "evangelical". It's a very common mistake/ misconception.

But the actual translation would be "protestant".

Apostolic means they believe that the era of apostles are still upon us. Specifically, it means they believe in signed gifts--in particular, speaking in tongues.

Yes, this. All Christians are called to evangelize, per the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20, if you're so inclined).

I don't think that's what you're worried about though. Self-described evangelicals get a bad rap in the US because they're socially conservative, but in my experience don't try to convert people as much as any other Christians. It's just a name - but being Anglican, and knowing "evangelical Anglicans", I'm perhaps not as threatened by it.

Personally, I know a few Pentecostals and haven't had any try to convert me. I'd be much more worried about a Mormon au pair.

What does Apostolic Pentecostals mean? Was the PP correct that it means a literal interpretation of the bible? Its fairly important to us that we not hire someone who does not believe in evolution, for instance. Or that is opposed to gay rights.

I'm looking at au pair candidates from Germany, and I've seen some candidates list "Apostolic" as their religion. Can anyone tell me what this is? I would prefer to avoid someone from a church that seeks to convert other people; or from a church that considers other religions as surely hell bound. I'd also like to avoid folks that are super-conservative socially or politically. Thanks -- just trying to find a match that will be successful on both ends.
