World Market has a couple of round coffee tables that's metal (durable with kids) and have a lift-up lid to be used for storage:

If you go that route, wait for a sale or coupon; they have them constantly. Regular price is $299, but I've seen the silver one drop to $220 or somewhere in that vicinity. I really like it but need rectangular myself, so I'm constantly scoping >$500 coffee tables!
