Standard size. When people describe them as smaller it's because they are basic frames, no fancy curves and thick railings which can make a crib's footprint larger without increasing the interior size.
Ours (the gulliver) is on baby number 2. It's been in continuous use for 4 years (crib>toddler bed>crib) and going strong, no signs of any damage or weakness. We did splurge on organic mattress because I can't stand the way mattresses off-gas when you first open their packaging.
