I got the 70 dollar one, it fits a normal mattress. I liked the look better than the 800, plus it's natural wood no paint just pure wood. We used butcher block oil food grade to protect it.

I bought a stupidly expensive Natart crib that arrived damaged and I had to wait 5 months(!!) for a replacement - screw you, GB (I digress). I bought the gulliver from ikea to use while we waited for the replacement crib and I honestly don't know what the hell I was smoking when I dropped 1k+ on the other crib. The gulliver had no smell straight out of the box, was easy to put together, and actually looks pretty nice. My naturepedic mattress fits perfectly. If I have another kid, he/she will be using the gulliver.

We love our ikea crib. Doing great five years in! We used it as a toddler crib too.

Agree, our Ikea crib is doing great 2 years in. We did splurge on a fancy mattress (well, grandparents did). Our baby's room is so small we wanted something that didn't take up a lot of extra space. And our kid is a chewer so glad those teeth marks aren't in something more expensive. Plus I couldn't see us transitioning a crib to a full size bed. Kids will get a twin size until they move out and buy their own

Going strong after three years! Getting it was a no-brainer. Btw, we bought a Dutalier glider on Craigslist for $100 and sold it two years later for...$100

Personally, I do not like the new mattress platforms, they seem flimsy and not sturdy where attached to the frame.


I went with a Graco from Walmart-the mattress platform is metal and much more solid. Same price point as Ikea.

This was recently, a few months ago, that I did my shopping.

Standard size. When people describe them as smaller it's because they are basic frames, no fancy curves and thick railings which can make a crib's footprint larger without increasing the interior size.

Ours (the gulliver) is on baby number 2. It's been in continuous use for 4 years (crib>toddler bed>crib) and going strong, no signs of any damage or weakness. We did splurge on organic mattress because I can't stand the way mattresses off-gas when you first open their packaging.

OP here. We are in the same boat! That's partially why I want to know. I'll buy a more expensive one if there's a reason to do so, but don't see the reason to spend the money if there isn't.

me too. we could have gotten a really expensive crib but went w/ an IKEA one that was under $100 (the Sniglar)...just didn't seem worth the $$ to buy a really nice one when they are all safety tested by the same standard and the Sniglar (and other IKEA cribs) get perfectly good ratings on Consumer Reports, among other ratings sites. we have been happy w/ our cheap little crib so far (we have been using the crib for about 5 months). I would recommend that you do not get an IKEA mattress for the crib, though. We bought a nicer crib mattress since we were saving so much on the crib. The IKEA mattresses are just really thin and not great quality (according to Baby Bargains, among others) and they are a standard size so any standard crib mattress will fit just fine.

I always tell people to splurge on the glider (particularly if you will be nursing) and the stroller, but the crib isn't worth it.

Same here. Have no problem dropping more money where it makes a functional difference (like the stroller) but couldn't see the point with a crib.

We haven't bought one yet, but I've seen lots of people on here say to just buy an Ikea crib, so we're thinking we'll just do that. they are supposed to be smaller than other ones, too.

We were looking at cribs this weekend -- mostly $300-$800, it seems. Just looked at the IKEA website, and they sell a crib for $79! The other ones are $200, max. Is there any reason NOT to get one of these? I know they aren't as "high quality," but they are still safety tested. Any experience with these?
