Thank you for this. My DH is from PA and I see so many of those when we go to visit. Always wondered what that was about and he didn't know.

Really??? I thought it signified a family occupant had died in WWI or WWII.

On a historic home, usually very old brick (like all over Georgetown and Old Town), the stars are a structural support. Decorative on the outside but serving a purpose of supporting the joists.

I've seen this enough times now that I'm wondering why. A very large star on a one level house usually one the outside of the house stuck to the front. And it's year round
