16:56 here. Exactly what happened to me. Primary care docs and ENT will run blood tests for allergies. These blood tests are not very sensitive and can come back with false negatives. The tests allergist run are much more accurate. Do not let someone tell you you don't have allergies based on a blood test.

What exactly was going on? Was it all because of allergies? Did you need another, different antibiotic? Other meds? Please share.

I had a chronic sinus infection for more than a year which my well respected ENT couldn't resolve. After 15 rounds of antibiotics and the threat of surgery I went to an allergist in desperation and he spent two hours with me and figured out what was going on. I haven't had a sinus infection in over two years.

I guess I don't know the difference between an allergist and an ENT. My ENT tested/treated me for allergies. He later did my sinus surgery.

Chronic sinus infections are often a side effect of allergies, so yes.

I would recommend the allergist first. I had surgery at the recommendation of an ENT to treat a chronic dry cough/chronic sinus infections and did not get better. Had to take my daughter to an allergist, he heard my cough and told me to make an appointment. I'm allergic to everything. Various meds and a allergy shots= no cough for more than a year and no sinus infections.

Allergists treat them and will give you antibiotics and sometimes prednisone if indicated. If they can't solve the problem, they will refer you on to an ENT.

Of course. A primary care doc would as well. I would see if the dentist is willing to give you a copy of the films or report (or even just a handwritten note documenting what they saw)

This may seem like a silly question, but I had x-rays done at the dentists which showed a lot of nasal congestion.

I've felt like I've been fighting a sinus issue for several months and planned to see an allergist. If it turns out that there is a sinus infection do they prescribe antibiotics like an ENT would or do I need two separate appointments? TIA.
