You don't need to call. We have flown about a dozen times with our 20 month old without a ticket for her, and have never called. Just flew last week - booked tickets and showed up at the airport, where you add her at check-in.

They can be really strict about the birth certificate - we had a problem once when we lost the copy on the trip and they made a big fuss about the return. It totally depends on who is working though - some care more than others.

I flew Southwest with a lap infant recently. First you need to call them and add your baby to your trip. They want to know the child's age and birthdate. I just printed my tickets for tomorrow's travel on southwest and the tickets don't mention anything about infant in lap. We are two adults, one 5 yo and one infant.

Did I miss something? I am now worried if I put in infant while booking trip or not.
