Yeah, no. Not normal. Unless there are some extreme circumstances we aren't hip to, like a slow release to freedom after serious rehab or something.

If I pay for the phone, it will have some way for me to find it if it's lost, and find the person with it if they happen to be with the phone. If I don't pay for the phone (one teen pays for her own), they may elect to have tracking or not.

I have one on my 12 year old's phone as a protection against loss. It's also great for knowing when the camp bus is running late. She knows it's there and she knows how I use it.
I can see an older teen thinking it's invasive. Odds are if I felt I needed something like that on my older teen's phone, there would be other issues.

I thought I was against it generally but now that impulsive DS is nearing 14 and having some issues, I'm rethinking my position! I think it depends on the kid. Most kids probably don't need it but a few do.

I'm curious, is is typical these dates for parents to put tracking apps on their kids' phones?
My 17 year old niece seems to be a good kid - good grades, doesn't drink or do drugs, nice friends, etc.
Her parents have an app on her phone so they track her whereabouts. Is this normal?
