Absolutely hilarious and perfect for reading aloud. Even my middle schooler loves it. It is a simple book but soooo well done.

We've been reading some great picture book bios lately, Star Stuff (about Carl Sagan), one about e. e. cummings (forgot the title), and Henry's Freedom Box (about Henry Brown and the underground railroad.) These books deal with some heady stuff (def. not for preschoolers) but I feel like the pictures really help make the history come alive.

Look up the Caldecott winners. They are chosen for the best picture book of the year for over 50 years. The runner up books are also excellent.

Also, these aren't picture book exactly but our DS still enjoys Where the Sidewalk Ends and the other Shel Silverstein books. Lots of fun illustrations in those.

I am looking for some good picture books that are for elementary students (more so than preschoolers) for my DS. I'd love to hear any suggestions for picture books (not chapter books) that tell more substantial stories that you and your children have loved. He reads some chapter books but also still loves to look at picture books and I'd like to update our collection of books a bit. Thanks!
