Has she been in all day Kindergarten before? How did that go?

Along with a snack, bring some water as she could be slightly dehydrated. In general, the young camp counselors are terrible about getting kids to drink water during the day.

Also, I'll add that when DS gets in the car, he doesn't want to talk about what he did that day. We go home and chill out. After a few hours he'll come over and say , "Guess what? Today I..." And it goes from there.

I'm with you OP. Handing her a snack immediately is awesome. In fact, I would bring her two snacks and let her choose. She will feel empowered that way.

My 7 yr old is in a very physically active camp and has been exhausted this week. He immediately takes a shower when he gets home and eats something. I usually limit screen time but have been encouraging TV this week in the evenings.

OP here. Thanks for all of the helpful suggestions. I pick her up at camp (1 block walk) and we come right home. No errands. I give her a snack and I try to talk to her. I hi I bringing a snack with me to hand her as I am saying hello at pickup is brilliant. That would likely help things a lot!!! Thank you for that! I also am pro-vegging and letting my kids watch a show or two for downtime, so she gets that as well. I will just keep on keeping on until we settle I to our new routine.

OP here. i was a SAHM until my 6yo turned 5yo. i have now worked full time for 1 year. i work from home 2 days a week to spend more time with my kids.

i don't play the games with people's feelings like you do. i have been on both sides of it.

but go on feeling smug and spiteful. i hope you are setting a better example for your children than the side you are showing on this parenting board.

Stop feeding the bullshit posters... Let your child veg out directly after camp. I give a snack and let my child get on the ipad. He also goes to bed earlier than when he was in school because he is so active all day that he is extremely tired.

Agree with having a snack at the ready. Also, what are you trying to do right after you pick her up -- errands, playing, etc? My DS needs about 20-30 minutes of down time after camp. I think the noise and somewhat chaotic/less structured nature of day camp drains him a bit. When I get him home, he has a snack and sits and does his daily reading for about half an hour. It gives him some quiet and space to decompress. Maybe something like that would help your daughter?

According to what source, other than you? My son is 6 and is in all day camp, and is his usual cheerful self at the end of the day. Not every kid is the same.

She's exhausted, physically and emotionally. She lets it all go with you because you are safe. Just get her home and in to bed ASAP.

Make sure her lunch has a lot of protein, have a snack waiting to hand to her at pickup, and put her to bed early.
