Seriously? Replace the mattress!

Even if the mattress hasn't gotten daily use for all 34 years, think of the dust! Ew.

I'm thinking every 12-15 years sounds about right.

I remember reading somewhere once that pillows can carry up to 2 pounds of dust mite feces over a 2 year period. Ever since, I've washed and dried my pillows monthly at high temperatures.

And that mattresses can double their weight in 10 years. That said, we still have an old mattress that we've had for 13 years. It's probably time to get rid of it, huh?

You should replace the mattress. The ones today are made so much better. Keep the bed though.

Please replace the mattress and throw the old one out! We replaced our mattress after 15 years and the new one has way better support. We probably should have done it around 12 years.

Besides less support over the years, I worry about dust mites, body oil/sweat, etc.

We just got rid of our 18 year old mattress.

I'm not even 34 years old myself.

One of my mattresses has been in storage for 4 going on 5 years should I throw it out?

Keep the bed. Replace the mattress ASAP. That's just gross.

Yes to clarify, the whole thing (bed, frame, mattress is 34 years old). Was originally in my mom's house.

Yikes! 34 years old? I got rid of my 23 year old mattress a few years ago and thought that was the oldest mattress on earth still in use. My back ached from sleeping on it. It was shot.

The bed? We'll keep it forever, probably. The mattress? Definitely replace that at least every 7-12 years, depending on the quality and how much use it gets.

My bed is about 34 years old. Still comfortable but it has some terrible stains on the mattress. I had googles how to remove but results say to just replace mattress. Sounds very wasteful to me. What is normal for you?
