We went to Greece five years ago in the middle of (what turned out to be) the early stages of the financial crisis. Days before our arrival there were protests blocks from our hotel, people shot, windows broken, etc. We had a good time, but I wouldn't have gone had I known that was going to be the case.

Not pp, but CNN was reporting this morning that ATMS were out of cash and when they were reopened, there would be a 60 euro daily limit on withdrawals.

I am awake of the crisis in Greece. Is there an economic problem in Turkey?

I know very little about international affairs, but I did hear that in the last day or two banks in Greece have shut down & ATMs are out of cash. With my limited about of knowledge, I'd think you would want to avoid what seems could become a very volatile situation.

Booked for Santorini and Turkey in August and getting nervous...

I would wait for it to die down. I've been stuck in S. Europe before. The people strike often and many sectors could get shut down- hotels, rails, ferrys.

They could not even pay me enough to travel there right now (banking crisis and potential unrest/government collapse).

These countries should pay peop,ego visit. Yuck.

For flights, I flew from DC (Dulles) to Istanbul in March this year. We had very inexpensive direct flights on Turkish Air. They have an 11PM departure that arrives in Istanbul 9.5 hours later (about 4:30PM local time). I highly recommend, especially with younger kids - you can get a full night's sleep. And TA has awesome entertainment systems in the back of each seat - hundreds of movies, games, music. It was excellent.

Tunisia is going to be super on sale now.

Turkish Air has had cheap nonstop flights in the past (like $800 or less rt).

Could anyone give tips on finding good deals to visit Turkey or Greece. We are thinking of going in March (2 kids 4 and 6). Thanks!
