City of Rockville has an arborist that will evaluate for free. Totally unbiased as they are not looking for business.

I hesitate to have someone come out for free. My ideal scenario is that someone will come out and say everything looks great and no further work is needed. It seems unlikely that someone doing a free consult would say that, you know?

I've always gotten free estimates/consultations from arborists. It's important to get an actual arborist, IMO, rather than just a landscaping biz. We've used Growing Earth and we liked them, but others in our neighborhood have mixed reports. We've also used For the Care of Trees, which was very good. Got them off Angie's List.

I recommend checkbook.org for things like this-- better than neighbors even but certainly better than an anonymous board.

Pp again. Do you know the history of the house, like was the sewer line ever replaced, or do any of the trees have compromised roots due to the need to replace any pipes running under your yard? You can take a hammer to the tree to see if it sounds hollow. FYI we had to remove a 150 foot tree and it ran us almost $3000-that included stump grinding.

We moved to a new house that has many tall, mature trees surrounding it. None of them look like they are in danger of falling down, but we're not experts, either. A big storm like this reminds us that if any one of them came down it would do some major damage.

Anyone have an idea what it would cost to have an arborist come out and do an inspection /consult on our trees?
