Took my 3 year old. Way way way over his head. I don't know how anyone younger than an adult would really get it, honestly.

I've commented before than tv/movie writing is terrible these days. Violence, bathroom humor, and sex. The writing doesn't seem to exist anymore. This film was was well written, had a good storyline, and held my attention. The movie had to rely on creativity rather than Being an in your face film. I enjoyed it a lot. It made me think that perhaps the children's films have to work a lot harder than the R rated adult films that are produced today. I saw it with my 8 yr old. She enjoyed it but a lot of the humor was lost on her. But isn't that the mark of a good kids movie--- one that had writing that appeals to kids and then has a deeper level which adults enjoy.

Saw it with my 11 yo daughter. We both really liked it. I think tween girls will love it, younger kids will not love it so much. There's no sondtrack or "inspring" musical numbers to keep kids involved. It's a movie that focuses on real life issues with transitions. Kids who've had to move will relate, or kids entering middle school.

My 8 yo DS liked it a lot. My 6 yo DD thought it was good but thinks Frozen was better. My 8 yo loved the emotions characters. He is still laughing about them. Both kids laughed in the movie.

My DH and I both cried. It is a great movie for parents. I didn't find it boring at all. It was creative and interesting. We are buying it when it comes out. I wish more movies were like this! The creator also did Up. So you know it is a movie with heart.

3 nine year olds (thought it was okay); 8 years old (thought it was boring); 11 year old (didn't like it); 6 year old fell asleep. I fell asleep twice. Pass on this one... it was like getting stuck in a nightmare for 2 hours.

It was one metaphor strung out for almost 2 hours. Not funny, not insightful. A little cloying. One funny moment at the very end with a cat.

Took 10yo DS. We're about to move, overseas & he's been worried, so he totally identified with the movie & it was a good launch point for discussion afterward.

saw it today too. 10 yr old DS didn't care for it, 8 yr old DD thought it was ok. I agree with PPs - i was bawling at a certain point (mom thing), but don't think it is a movie that we will watch again ( e.g. cars, frozen, little mermaid etc). For an adult the premise was interesting, but I agree that I don't really think the kids got it, though it did spark some good conversations.

We saw it today on DD's 11th birthday, and boy was I bawling when, well, I won't spoil it, but when something faded away. A movie about emotions got to me on an emotional day. All the kids we went with liked it, and acted it out the rest of the day.

Took DD (10) and her 10yo friend and my younger DD (7). Definitely better for the 10yos than the 7yo. They appreciated it more but there was nothing wrong with it for the 7yo. There were some funny moments and some sweet moments but overall it was just okay, not great.

Saw it today--my girls (6 and 4--DH and his brother went to see Jurassic World and no way was I staying at the in-laws solo) said they liked it but I don't think it will be one we watch over and over again. I think the story was over their heads and I teared up.

It would be better for tweens but I wouldn't say it's bad for younger kids--they may just find it boring.

How was it? I've heard it's actually more suited for grownups and possibly too "deep" for kids. What did you think, and what ages do you think it would be good for?
