I think I'd rather have the handshake than what happened on my last first (last) date. The date was decent, he gave me a passionate kiss at the end of it, and then he never called me again.

I'd be less confused by a handshake.

Probably just awkward. Louis CK explained it well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTULoJlD_V4

Yeah, probably just awkwardness if you had a good connection. Don't over read it. Glad you had a good date!

The guy shakes a lot of hands for work.

After the date, his thoughts...

"That was fun. Don't wait, ask her out again now. Holy shit, why did I just stick my hand out there? Damn. Do you think she saw? Ugh. She's shaking my hand. Why would I do that? Well, there goes the second date."

Don't read too much into the handshake. He was probably very nervous. If he already mentioned a second date, take him at his word.

Dating is awkward in general. Don't write him off just yet.

Man here. Agree. That was a single moment. If you had fun for two hours, have another date.

A handshake? I can see just hugging but the handshake is such a platonic gesture. How much do you like him OP? If there weren't sparks, I would fall back. How old is he?

I think he contradicted himself, you don't ask for a 2nd date and then shake hands to say goodbye.

Maybe YOU don't, but maybe he does. OP, just take him at his word until he shows you otherwise.

Text, call or email (however you were communicating with him pre-date) to thank him again for the date and tell him you had a really good time. Not a good time (that could be just politeness) but a really good time with some specific comment pertinent to your date (I haven't laughed that hard in awhile, you're easy to talk to, etc. etc.). If he's interested, he'll reiterate the offer for another time. If not, all you've been is polite. It's not like you've embarrassed yourself by falling all over him.

Nope, you never know. He could just be awkward. Don't worry about it!

Had driinks last night with a person for the first time. Had fun. Easy conversation - spent a couple of hours together. Check paid and we go outside and he says would you want to get a drink another time. I say that would be fun. Then to say goodbye he sticks out his hand for a handshake. I am thinking this means he is not interested and just made the offer of a second date to avoid an awkward goodbye. Thoughts?
