As a mom with older kids let me say HS is the most important school. All ES schools that feed to Oakton high are great. All AAP centers at the MS level that feed to Oakton are great.

More important is what's the child's home life like. Are parents home? Are they involved? Is the family intact?

If you're to the area and want OHS pyramid, you'll be fine wherever you go!

If you want your kids to be happy, well adjusted and successful then you have to exemplify such at home.

What makes it an excellent school, if you could say more?

I sent 2 kids through Oakton AAP and it was uneven. Because it's LLIV, there is only one AAP class, and one DC was in a class of 33-34 for 2 years (the class below only has 19-20) which was a problem. Most AAP teachers are top notch, but one is really terrible, and there is no way around having her. That said, nearly all Oakton parents opt for Oakton over Sunrise, the AAP Center.

OP here. Older DC at a center, younger was in 2nd this year but is center-eligible in fall for 3rd grade.

I have been disappointed in our center -- teachers have been mediocre to bad -- so we're open to anything.

Oakton and Waples Mill are great schools, but they both have large class sizes.

OP here. Thank you for replying! Can you tell me more about Oakton ES? In the fall I will have a 3rd and 6th grader, both in AAP.

Please advise me! Just found out we may be moving over the summer. I'm not at all familiar with the elementary (or middle, for that matter) schools in Oakton. (I'v heard good things about Oakton High -- true?). What would be some good options for us to look at?

We'd be fine with either a center or a LL4, as long as the class sizes are good, parents, teachers and administration happy and reasonably focused on academics.
