If you've ever seen the conditions the people who pick berries work in, I bet you would. They are out from sun up to sun down, and there are no bathrooms in sight.

Not to mention all the pesticides/herbicides used (whether you buy organic or not)

You really should wash them well. Not just the berries but any fruits that you don't feel the skins

This sounds like a great idea before eating the berries, but you shouldn't wash berries until right before you're about to eat them. Washing them and then putting in the fridge actually makes them age more quickly--or at least that's what I've been told by folks who work at farms when we pick our own. Not sure if this is the case for pre-washed grocery store berries.

I have a small colander that fits perfectly in a bowl, so I put said colander in the bowl, splash of vinegar and will with fruit and water. Let it sit for a few minutes, then drain, rinse, and good to go.

Thank you for this little tip.. I had no idea and we go through a TON of berries at my house..

I line jelly roll/cookie sheets with paper towels, rinse berries in cold water and set out on the paper towels to dry. I will roll them around a little and pat them dry.

Raspberries by their nature squish easily when damp so either eat right away before they get soggy or rinse as needed.
The hardier berries, like blueb. and strawb., I just rinse in the container and gently shake the water out through the container holes.

I have never rinsed berries.

I rinse as soon as I am going to eat them. Leave them on a towel to dry. Raspberries I just set on the towel and hardier berries like blueberries or strawberries I am less gentle with.

I rinse in cool water and then place on a paper towel and pat try.

I either grab a handful and stick them under the water, or if I'm using a whole container, I either rinse the container or dump them in a colander and rinse the colander.

Wash them when you need them. Don't wash them all when you first bring them home. If for some reason you feel compelled to do so, I would probably add a folded paper towel to the container to absorb some moisture.

Wash then immediately eat. No trick.

I know they need to be washed but they always end up soggy (especially raspberries). What's the trick?
