Dear 15:54. What a mean thing to say. You know that's not correct, and why not just answer with facts, not bashing.

OP - what a great choice to have. Both are good, can't imagine it is easy. Your daughter should go with her gut feeling - most kids have a sense of where they will be happy. Rest assured, both are great schools that will prepare her for the college of her choice.

You can certainly be challenged there though. They offer a good range of APs as well as the International Baccalaureate program or just as separate classes. There are more socioeconomic classes represented at AHC for sure. That reflects in college placement since many girls simply cannot afford many of the private colleges.

I think there is a class difference. I think AHC is more socio-economically diverse while Visi pulls from a different crowd SES wise.

Visi does much better for college. If you don't care then go to Holy Cross. it's much easier.

Can you elaborate from personal experience? Our DD is looking at SR and loved the open house. Liked Visitation too but found it a little staid. Definitely did not like AHC.

Can you elaborate on your dislikes of AHC? It is coming to the top of my DD's list of potential schools to apply to in the fall from the website, etc.

This is what my DD decided on, but when time came to sign, she decided on coed.

Holy Cross' proximity to Grosvenor is a big bonus. It is just a walk down the steps from the cafeteria. That was an important consideration since we are two working parents and mid-day pickups would be impossible and morning drop offs can't work when I travel for my job.

Rush hour commute, rush hour commute, rush hour commute.

What do you mean by location? Do you mean proximity to the school? Both campuses are convenient for us as we live between the two so that's about even.

Location, location, location.

My daughter is at AHC and her friends are at Visi. There are pros and cons to both. My daughter has enjoyed taking AP classes as a sophomore which her friends were not allowed to do at visitation. She will begin the full IB program next year which appears fantastic. She works hard, is in the Scholars program and gets great grades. She is also able to play two sports and maintain a full schedule in an outside activity she has been doing for years. The key to that is their 2 day rotating schedule. They have longer classes and absolutely get enough homework for both days but it gives her more time to schedule her commitments. Sure there are girls there who are not as academically focused, but my daughter is very challenged and really enjoys the variety of people there. It does not seem as cookie-cutter affluent as Visi. As a parent I have been very impressed by the school in terms of their Catholic identity and discipline.

I think AHC is under-rated. There is certainly a place for the academic minded girl, as well as the not so strong student. That's important too and those girls tend to be overlooked in the cut-throat admissions process.

I know she loved the thought of Visi before she got this feedback.

Any insight?

We had heard some similar stories about Visi and were leaning towards our DD going to a large, less expensive, co-ed parochial HS near our home. But our daughter (a smart two-sport athlete) loved her two shadow days at Visi. And once we carefully compared the academic resources available at Visi versus the resources at our large local parochial HS, we were convinced that she would receive a much better education at Visi.
