I grew to hate date nights too. Because I was starved for sex and developed an expectation that they would lead to sex. When they didn't, I got resentful.

I'm confused. Why can't 'date night" be exactly what you suggest...going out and having fun together without kids and expectations? Isn't date night simply a night that married adults go out alone? What's keeping you from doing whatever it is you want on those nights?

So don't do them. Don't call them date nights if that's too much pressure. I do think planning the time, whatever you call it, is important or too often it doesn't happen. Maybe start planning one "Mom & Dad" night a week that's just what you said, hanging out with wine or a show on netflix or something like that.
