Vividly remember some HBO movie in the '80s in which a guy carefully taped up the switch to the disposal before putting his hand in, but supernatural forces still managed to make it go on as he was working on it. Am I the only one?

I'm not afraid to put my hand in the disposal but I do admit to thinking about that scene whenever I do!

Why are you scared to put your hand down there? Don't flip the switch while your hand is down there and you'll be fine.

I put my hand down there every day.

Even if it malfunctions, so what if you live alone? It's not going to pulverize your heart.

Or, turn on the disposal and grind it up. It'll sound like a demolition derby for awhile, but eventually, it will dispose of it.
I recognize this is not ideal, but if you can't bear to go after it, it is another way to go. (Just cover the opening so it doesn't become a flying projectile.)
If your disposal can't handle an apricot pit, it's time for a new disposal anyway.

Is this post for real? Why can't you put your hand down there? What do you think is going to happen? I reach down there to dig out things several times a week. Baby spoons slip down there every few days in my house.

I promise there are no sharks or scorpions living in your sink drain. It's actually quite small. Stick your fingers down there and grab the pit.

Put your hand in there. My husband acts like this too. So weird.

You can safely put your hand in there and take it out. I do all the time to clean and have never had any problems.

I'm usually very religious about not getting stuff in there and use a drain strainer. But as I was emptying the sink strainer thing, the apricot pit rolled out and immediately into the garbage disposal. CRAP

I live alone and am terrified of putting my hand down there. Even if I shut off the circuit breaker.

Should I try and remove it? Let it fester down there? Hope it rolls away, down the drain, and far far away? It's about the size of a marble, or dime
