Depends what died. $7k sounds like an entire replacement. We replaced our outdoor condenser for $2k. Also 1,5 ton - trane. 14 seer I think.

Hi OP,

We got a 15 seer system for 1500 square feet (our unit also has a heat pump) for 6k two years ago. We used angie's list and got several quotes. We got a trane system. GL!

If you post this on garden web along with model number etc you'll get a lot of help.

Unsurprisingly, now that it is 90+ degrees, our 20 year old air conditioner died. We now need a new AC unit for the second floor (we have a separate AC unit for the first floor, which we installed last year - the previous owners never had AC on the first floor). We brought in the same AC installation folks to give us a quote, which ranges from 6-7k depending on which unit we go with. It is only a 1.5 ton Lennox unit, as our upstairs is roughly 700 sq ft. We also don't have a lot of time to get multiple quotes - we really need a working AC system with this heat.

Anyone have a sense of whether this is a decent quote? Any thoughts on lennox systems?
