Op, I really don't know or talk to her that much. It just came out because I mentioned DD is in Montgomery county schools so she thought I might know. I really didn't but told her I'd try and find out.

Thanks for the info.. FYI, the use of Montgomery county system is more to do with coordinating pickup and drop off due to long commute rather than trying to buck the system.


MCPS Pre-K is half day so it wouldn't really help her anyway. At our school it's 9:00-11:30 or 12:30-3:00. I'm assuming those hours wouldn't work for a person commuting from West Virginia.

Which wouldn't make any sense. If your income is so low that you meet the requirements for Pre-K, you cannot afford tuition.

You can pay tuition to attend MCPS schools if they have space (less common these day). But I doubt that applies to PreK since it's only for low income families and very limited. She should call the program to inquire.

I'm not sure this is even possible but there is a person where I work who lives in West Virginia but works in Maryland (Montgomery county). She has a four year old and would like to do prek/head start. Apparently, something one stated to the person that it might be possible for someone eligible income wise to attend Montgomery County PreK/Headstart from out of state since place of work is here. Has anyone heard of this possibility?
