OP here. It's a single vanity with sink included. They will do no replacement of drywall, no re-wiring or major plumbing changes, no door or window replacement. They will paint the walls that are untiled. Vanity does not include faucet.

The shower head system is the Moen "90-degree" model (one shower head, one handheld, manual control) for approx $1770.

Thanks for the feedback. It sounded like so much money to re-do such a tiny bathroom (7.5 by 5 ft!) Good to know it sounds reasonable to most posters.

" The shower head system"

Please tell me about this, what model and why is it so expensive

Will they replace drywall? Paint? replace a door or a window? rewire? rerout or redo plumbing?

yeah, that's reasonable then. Vanity may or may not include countertop and sinks and faucets at that price? Faucets alone will be $500 on a double vanity. Tile will be a few thousand including install.

Do you know what kind of fixtures and tile you are getting? The cheapest available at Home Depot or is it marble or something else specific that you requested, a subway shape or glass tile? Will there be decorative accent tiles?

Same with the toilet and vanity. Have you selected them, will you select them, or will they just choose something for you?

What about the shower - are you putting in a hand held shower and a regular shower head - what kind of controls - just a pressure balance valve that only allows you to control the temperature (it's either on or off and you choose the temp) or a more complicated system where you can control the temperature and adjust the flow?

The more detail you have up front, the more likely you are to get exactly what you want - and understand what you are paying for.

labor usually shouldn't exceed cost of materials

What would you say is a reasonable labor cost for this?

The estimate is not very detailed. He came and took notes and measurements, but the estimate he sent was just the number.

It really depends on your fixtures and finishes. Tile prices range widely - as do the costs of faucets, shower heads, the glass shower enclosure, etc.

How detailed is your estimate?

no way should be 8-10k unless you are buying solid gold

TH was built in the 70s, and the bathroom is original from that time.
